RACE TO THE ISLAND

Race to the Island takes place at Barren River Lake. A beautiful peninsula overlooking the expansive lake. Barren River Lake is the 3rd largest lake in KY. Orienteering Louisville has developed a great relationship with the Girl Scouts and the Lake also happens to be around where most of our active JROTC schools are located.

When: Jan 5th, 2019 Mass Start Event at 10am CST Register at 9am to plan your course.

Where: Barren Ridge is located on Barren Lake. Some online Map programs incorrectly have the Girl Scout Camp located on the other side of the lake. The Address is officially listed as 399 Girl Scout Rd, Glasgow KY

Format: 3 hour score O - Get the controls in any order. 20 controls are scattered about Camp Barren Ridge. Level 2 is a time trial (a point to point race) for those who complete the Score O. You still have to be done in 3 hours. Finally those who make the island control their first control, are entered for a chance of snagging a retro T-shirt. The first two women and first two men get a retro T-shirt.

Cost and Registration: Signing up for the meet ahead of time helps the volunteers tremendously. The cost is $10 each for Non Members and $7 each for OLOU Club members or pre-college Students. Group rates vary depending on how many are attending. If you have a group larger than 6, please let the Meet Director know ahead of time. Please Contact the Meet Director Ken Kling as far in advance as possible. The day before the meet and day of the meet, the meet director is unavailable because he is putting the control markers out in the woods.
